SZBA Panel Discussion on ‘Arabic Literary Awards – Mobilising the Cultural Scene’

Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA) organised a panel discussion entitled ‘Arabic Literary Awards – Mobilising the Cultural Scene’ as part of its participation in the Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2019 

The session was moderated by Randa Habib, Board Member of the Jordan Media Institute, Jordan and included speakers; HE Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award; Dr. Mohammed Bennis, member of the Scientific Committee of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award; Dr. Abdelaziz AlSebail, Secretary General of the King Faisal Prize; Dr. Henri El Awit, Director General of the Arab Thought Foundation - Arab Creativity Award; Dr. Jalal Tawahiah, Director of the King Abdullah Bin Al-Hussein Award for Creativity

Do awards encourage writers to produce more? Why do some poets and authors lack the desire to seek prestigious literary awards? What are the criteria for selection?

The panel discussed the importance of Arabic literary awards and its role in mobilizing the cultural scene.
