Sheikh Zayed Book Award participates in Frankfurt Book Fair 2012
Abu Dhabi,
Abu Dhabi, September 23, 2012 – The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is participating in this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany which marks the 64th cycle of the world's largest trade fair in the publishing industry. The International book Fair, organized by a subsidiary company of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, will commence its activities on 10th through 14th of October, joining more than 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries and more than 286,000 visitors from all over the world.
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s participation this year comes as part of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture convoy to the blue-chip event. “This year’s participation in Frankfurt Book Fair gains paramount significance as it follows our fruitful contribution in the Arab-German Cultural Communion in the German Capital Berlin, last September, in addition to the introduction of our new category “Arabic Culture in other Languages”, Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, the Award’s Secretary General, commented. “The new category proved to be a success as it attracted substantial response from academics and cultural researchers around the world, especially from Germany”, he added. The “Arabic Culture in other Languages” is a new category devised prior to the launch of the Award’s 7th session currently in progress, to honor all written works in languages other than Arabic, about the Arabic civilization and culture, in the fields of humanities, fine arts, and literature throughout its historical eras.
Parallel to the Book Fair proceedings, bin Tamim will be meeting an assembly of authors and academics from a number of German and European universities, as the closing date of nominations is drawing near on the 15th of this month. The deadline has been extended beyond its original date on 30th of September to give a greater opportunity for those willing to participate.
Earlier in September, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award organized the Arab-German Cultural Communion in the German Capital Berlin in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE’s Embassy in Germany. The event brought together an assembly of top-level diplomatic and cultural figures from UAE and Germany, including a high profile team led by Dr. Ali Bin Tamim.
