Sheikh Zayed Book Award to meet prominent Russian literary figures
Abu Dhabi,
In cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies and UAE’s Embassy in Moscow, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award will be holding an Arab-RussianCultural seminar in the Russian Capital Moscow, later this month on the 27th of September 2013.
This participation comes in line with the Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s efforts to reach out to international audiences and promote the Award’s vision at cultural gatherings around the world. This has become more significant after the introduction of the new category, “Arabic Culture in other Languages” that is accepting literary works in English, Russian and Italian for the eighth session currently running. The Award’s nominations phase will last until mid-October 2013.
The event will bring together an assembly of top-level diplomatic and cultural figures from UAE and Moscow, in addition to an assembly of the Russian cultural and academic community elites from Moscow State University, Russia Book Award / Yeltsin Presidential Institute, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Mardjani Foundation, National Library of Moscow, alongside renowned Arab authors, academics and intellectuals living in Russia, and a number of representatives from Arab and Foreign Media.
The event serves the Award's objective to honor non-Arab authors and researchers who promote the Arab culture through their writing in their own languages.
The Sheikh Zayed Book Award was established in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, and of his pioneering role in promoting national unity and development. It is presented every year to outstanding Arab writers, intellectuals, and publishers as well as young talents whose writing and translation in humanities have objectively enriched Arab scholarship and cultural, literary, and social life.
