The Award creates hype at Frankfurt Book Fair

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s participation at Frankfurt Book Fair this year has lured international attention towards rising Arabic literary creativity. The Award’s fine selection of present winners captured the interest of non-Arab Book Industry stakeholders.
“We are pleased to be among the giants at this infamous event that has become a landmark of the international Book Industry, as it fulfills one of the key missions we strive to achieve, and that is reaching out to the international surrounding with cultural and literary works of creative individuals that hold a promise of a brighter future for Arabic literature.” Mr. Rashed Al Oraimi, Sheikh Zayed Book Award’s Secretary General, commented. “And our pleasure this year is in multiples, as we get the chance to showcase the this year's winning books and set the scene for our upcoming medley of winners.”
In its ongoing fifth session, the Award has collected a remarkable sum of works, standing at a total of 715 received across its nine categories. The nominations were received from 28 countries with impressive variety, including nominations from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Pakistan, India and New Zealand, in addition to 19 Arab countries. “Winners will be identified against stringent scientific and objective principles to evaluate the merits of their creative work, as part of a rigorous award selection process happening every year.” Al Oraimi elaborated.
Once approved by the Award’s Higher Committee, the winners will be announced in February 2011. Following closely, the Award’s Presentation Ceremony, which will be held parallel to the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair during March next year.
